Carlijn Remie was born in Sittard, the Netherlands, on 12th March 1991. In 2009 she started the Bachelor Nutrition and Dietetics at the HAN University of Applied Sciences in Nijmegen, with the specialization Clinical Nutrition. After completing her Bachelor degree in 2013 she started the Master Nutrition and Health at the Wageningen University. She completed her thesis at the Department of Human and Animal Physiology of Wageningen University. For her internship she went 5 months to the University of Copenhagen, department of Biomedical Sciences (Xlab).
In August 2015, Carlijn received her Master Degree in Nutrition and Health with the specialisation Molecular Nutrition and Toxicology. In October 2015, she started her PhD in Maastricht at the department of Nutrition and Movement sciences under the supervision of Prof. Patrick Schrauwen and Dr. Esther Phielix. During her PhD, Carlijn will investigate different strategies (cold acclimation, NAD+ precursor supplementation and sitting less) to improve insulin sensitivity and muscle mitochondrial function, with the aim to reduce the risk of developing type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular diseases.
