Bram Brouwers was born on March the 24th 1986 in Ghent, Belgium. After graduating from secondary school in 2004 he went to the University of Ghent to study Biomedical sciences. He successfully completed his Master Cum Laude with a Major in Food and Metabolism in 2010, Subsequently, he started as a PhD student at the department of Human Biology at Maastricht University. Under supervision of Patrick Schrauwen and Matthijs Hesselink he is focusing on the link between obesity, insulin resistance and liver metabolism. To investigate this relationship he is using state of the art methods, like NMR Spectroscopy and the hyperinsulinemic-euglycemic clamp technique in human subjects with obesity, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and type 2 diabetes. During this period, Bram presented his work several times at both national and international conventions.
