NVDO – Absence of a day-night rhythm in skeletal muscle metabolism of insulin resistant individuals

During the NVDO meeting, Ciarán presented about the absence of a day-night rhythm in skeletal muscle metabolism of insulin-resistant individuals. The key messages of his presentation where that:

  • Insulin resistant individuals have a marked absence of day-night variation in skeletal muscle mitochondrial function
  • Day-Night rhythm of peripheral clock gene expression is disrupted in individuals with insulin resistance.
  • Insulin resistant individuals display metabolic inflexibility over the course of 24-hours
